Registration Policies

  • Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served, space available basis.
  • Walk-ins are allowed on a space available basis with payment.
  • Multi-day programs must be attended by the same registrant each day. No substitutions are allowed.
  • CalCPA Education Foundation reserves the right to substitute speakers, change locations based on facility availability and to cancel programs if necessary. Travel expenses incurred by the registrant for canceled events will not be reimbursed.
  • CalCPA Education reserves the right to refuse admission and to remove any individual whose behavior it deems inappropriate.

CalCPA Professional Education Event Cancellation Policies (Updated March 12, 2020)

Due to the current Coronavirus situation, CalCPA is temporarily modifying its cancellation policies to accommodate extraordinary circumstances. These modifications are effective as of March 12, 2020, and will revert to CalCPA’s regular cancellation policies at a future date to be determined by CalCPA.   

To receive a full refund, cancellations can be requested by:

  • Clicking “Cancel Registration” from My Activities;
  • Emailing support@calcpa.org;
  • Live Chat—accessible from any page on calcpa.org; or
  • Calling CalCPA Customer Success at (800) 922-5272

Cancellation requests must be made at least three (3) business days prior to the event date. Cancellations made less than three (3) business days prior to an event will incur a Cancellation Fee, unless the request falls within the Waiver Qualification Policy (see details below). Cancellation Fees are based on the number of CPE (or equivalent) hours offered for the event. 

Waiver Qualification Policy: Cancellation Fees will be waived under the following circumstances: (A) Coronavirus Illness: Anyone with a physician’s letter indicating their confirmed illness with the Coronavirus COVID19 (the physician’s letter must be provided by email or mail to CalCPA within 14 days of the event); (B) Travel Restrictions: Anyone unable to attend a live, in-person event due to Coronavirus COVID19 travel restrictions will not be charged a cancellation fee; in addition, every attempt will be made to accommodate a person under travel restriction with a webcast version of the original program or a transfer of their registration to an equivalent CalCPA online professional education program of the person’s choice.

No-shows
Refunds will not be given for no-shows.

VPE discount program holders—No-shows will have the number of registered CPE hours deducted from their VPE credit.

Coupon users—No-shows will forfeit the coupon used to register.

Confirmation Notices
Approximately five days before the event, CalCPA Education Foundation will send you a confirmation/reminder via email. You may also access your confirmation online at any time. Please check this notice carefully for FINAL details about the event facility and to download materials for events with ebooks.

Attendance and Credit
You are required to legibly sign your name on the official sign-in sheet prior to the start of the event. Late arrival/early departure must be noted and partial credit will be awarded.

California Board of Accountancy Requirements
CPE providers are required to:

  • Closely monitor attendance during CPE. If you are not in the room for an extended period of time you will not receive full credit.
  • Calculate CPE on a 50-minute hour. Once the first 50-minute hour of CPE has be completed, you will receive .5 hour credit for each 25-minute segment.
  • Webcast: Attendance check three times every hour, with at least one check occurring at an irregular interval. In order to receive full credit, you must be in attendance for the duration of the webcast and respond to at least 75% of the attendance questions.
  • Archive sign-in sheets to verify your CPE attendance in the event your CPE records are audited.

Webcast
Group attendance is verified and documented by the group leader on the group attendance form the day of the event. Your name must be listed under the “Group Sign-In Sheet”. If your name is not listed, please call (800) 922-5272. We are unable to grant CPE credit in cases where technical difficulties and operational requirements are not met

Certificate of Completion
3–5 business days after the course completion, access your certificate of completion from calcpa.org/CPE_Tracker.

Fraud Requirement
All licensees who are subject to the Accounting & Auditing requirement or Government CE requirement shall also complete four hours of fraud continuing education specifically related to the prevention, detection and reporting of fraud in financial statements, every renewal period of two years.

Ethics and Regulatory Review Requirements

Four hours of ethics continuing education is required every renewal period of two years.

A two-hour regulatory review course is required every six years covering the California Accountancy Act, plus California Board of Accountancy regulations and enforcement actions.

At conferences, light breakfast, lunch and wireless internet access are provided at no additional cost.

At courses, coffee, tea and beverages are provided. Courses at CalCPA offices and CPE Weeks also include lunch, free parking and wireless internet access.

Unless otherwise noted, event materials are available for download three business days prior to the event. Certain live events will have hardcopy materials distributed onsite.

Self-Study/Online Course Policies
You have one year from date of purchase to complete your self-study or online course and pass the final exam. All self-study exams require a minimum passing grade of 70 percent. (Regulatory review courses require a minimum passing grade of 90 percent). You are allowed three attempts to pass the exam at no extra charge. You can access your courses at calcpa.org under My Online/Self-Study.

Exam results are accessible immediately upon submission of your exam. Your certificate of completion is available for download upon successful completion of your exam.

     ProDio Mobile Audio Learning: Refunds are not offered for ProDio Mobile Audio Learning courses unless in exceptional circumstances where the customer is unable to access the ProDio course due to the fault of ProDio.

Complaint Resolution Policy

CTEC Credit
CalCPA Education Foundation has been approved by the California Tax Education council to offer continuing education courses that count as credit towards the annual “continuing education” requirement imposed by the State of California for CTEC Registered Tax Preparers. A listing of additional requirements to register as a tax preparer may be obtained by contacting CTEC at P.O. Box 2890, Sacramento, CA 95812-2890, toll-free by phone at (877) 850-2832), or on the internet at www.ctec.org.

NASBA Registered
CalCPA Education Foundation is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), as a Quality Assurance Service sponsor of continuing professional education.

State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to NASBA through its website: www.learningmarket.org.

Note: State Boards have final authority to grant CPE credit. It is each attendee's own responsibility to ensure that any course meets their CPE requirements. Our self-study courses are developed to meet national and state guidelines so our courses can be accepted for CPE credit in all states. Courses comply with the statement on standards for formal self-study programs [National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA)] CPE Standards.

Other Notes:

Idaho: Courses qualify as acceptable continuing professional education programs provided they meet the standards outlined in Section 6 of the Board of Accountancy Rules and Regulations.
Kansas: Courses are designed to meet the requirements of regulation 74-4-8(a).
Louisiana: Correspondence programs qualify as acceptable continuing professional education programs in the state of Louisiana provided they meet the requirements outlined in Chapter 7 of the State Board's Rules and Regulations. Many courses are not accepted for CPE credit in Louisiana.
Michigan: We have agreed to comply with the continuing professional education rules contained in R 338.5216.

All our courses are developed to meet AICPA and NASBA guidelines so our courses can be accepted for CPE credit in all states. However, state boards have final authority to grant CPE. Please contact your governing agency to determine if specific courses qualify for your CPE requirements.

Fees
CalCPA member fees are applicable for current CalCPA members. Membership year runs May 1–April 30.

Cancellation Policies
If you need to cancel your registration, you must cancel four business days prior to the event to receive a full refund. After that time a refund will be issued on a case-by-case basis through the local program associate. No refunds will be given for no-shows.

Attendance Policies
All confirmation notices are available online. Approximately 5 days before the event you will receive an official confirmation notice. Please check this notice carefully for FINAL details about the event facility.

To be admitted to an event, you are required to legibly sign your name on the official sign-in sheet prior to the start of the event. If you arrive late, you must note your arrival time on the sign-in sheet. If you need to leave early, you must initial and note your departure time on the sign-in sheet to receive partial credit.
The California CPA Education Foundation archives sign-in sheets as required by the California Board of Accountancy to verify your CPE attendance in the event your CPE records are audited.

CPE Credit Policies
The California Board of Accountancy records CPE calculated on a 50-minute hour, which is comprised of two 25-minute segments. Once the first 50-minute hour of CPE has been completed, you will receive 1/2 credit hour for each additional 25-minute segment that is completed in class.

You can access your personalized certificate of completion from the My Events, or My CPE Tracker. .It may take up to two weeks following the course for attendance to be posted.

Your CPE record, located in My CPE Tracker, will track your credit for all Education Foundation and CalCPA events. You also can add credit earned from other providers to keep your CPE record in one location. For your convenience, this information is offered in the same format as the CE Reporting worksheet required by the California Board of Accountancy.
