CalCPA Member Okorie Ramsey Named Chair of AICPA

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 24, 2023) — Okorie L. Ramsey, CPA, CGMA, PMP, NACD.DC, Vice President, Sarbanes/Oxley for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, is the new chair of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). He also will serve as chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, which combines the strengths of the AICPA and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Ramsey has been an active member of CalCPA since 2009 and has held various leadership positions, including chair of the CalCPA Education Foundation.

Leading Accounting Organizations Partner to Diversify the Accounting Profession
Pilot program from IMA, AAA, NABA, CalCPA, CAQ, and Gleim will reach out to Black students and professionals in California

IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), AAA (American Accounting Association), NABA Inc. (formerly the National Association of Black Accountants), CalCPA (California Society of Certified Public Accountants), CAQ (Center for Audit Quality), and Gleim Exam Prep, today announced a partnership pilot program in California to encourage Black students to pursue accounting as a profession and Black professionals to consider sharing their experiences in the accounting classroom. The program will look to increase the number of Black and African American individuals who are fluent in accounting, the language of money, business, and wealth.

 

Under the partnership agreement, the six organizations will combine their resources for outreach to Black students and to professionals for teaching roles in California. Pending the success of this pilot program, it can eventually expand to other demographic groups and geographies.

2022-23 CalCPA Chair Tayiika Dennis Plans to Increase Opportunities for Better Diversity in the Accounting Profession’s Talent Pipeline

BURLINGAME, CA.—Tayiika M. Dennis, CPA, a principal at CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA), was named the new chair of the CalCPA Board of Directors during the CalCPA’s Annual Members’ Business Meeting in July. During her term, Dennis will focus on helping the CPA profession improve resilience, diversity and growth of the pipeline of students for future careers in accounting and auditing.

Adam Blitz Named 2022-23 CalCPA Education Foundation Chair

BURLINGAME, CA.—Adam Blitz, CPA, was installed as the 2022-23 chair of the CalCPA Education Foundation ("the Foundation”) during the July 29 CalCPA Council meeting.

“The difficulties our profession has faced the last two years have underscored the importance of our need as a community to come together to support each other in meaningful ways,” said Blitz. “I’m honored to be elected chair of the Foundation this year, and I urge my fellow CPAs to join me in reinvigorating the fundamental things that make us, us.

IMA, CalCPA, and IFAC Join Forces with Global Accounting Profession to Provide Actionable DE&I Solutions

MONTVALE, NJ.—IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), CalCPA (California Society of Certified Public Accountants), and IFAC (International Federation of Accountants) today released its “Diversifying Global Accounting Talent: Actionable Solutions for Progress” report. As a joint effort, the report assesses the deeply rooted issues inhibiting progress in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) within the accounting profession and offers actionable solutions to close the gap in DE&I.
