Jan. 16, 2025 — Governor Newsom has suspended penalties and interest on late property tax payments for a year, effectively extending the state property tax deadline, for those living in communities impacted by the Los Angeles firestorms.
Jan. 14, 2025 — CalChamber has posted a number of resources on their website for those affected by the wildfires.
Jan. 13, 2025 — Individuals and businesses with their principal residence or principal place of business in Los Angeles County during the Los Angeles County fires that began on January 7, 2025, qualify for a postponement to file and pay taxes until October 15, 2025. (FTB)
Jan. 13, 2025 — In response to the recent wildfires, the state has extended the January 31, 2025, sales and use tax filing deadline for Los Angeles County taxpayers until April 30, 2025.
Jan. 11, 2025 — In wake of the recent wildfires, the state is offering taxpayers in Los Angeles County a postponement on filing 2024 tax returns and making tax payments that would have been due between January 7 and October 15, 2025.
Jan. 10, 2025 — The IRS announced today tax relief for individuals and businesses in southern California affected by wildfires and straight-line winds that began on Jan. 7, 2025.
These taxpayers now have until Oct. 15, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.
The IRS is offering relief to any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Currently, individuals and households that reside or have a business in Los Angeles County qualify for tax relief.
The same relief will be available to any other counties added later to the disaster area. The current list of eligible localities is always available on the Tax relief in disaster situations page on IRS.gov.
